Community Ed. Presentation on cable

People who missed the Community Education Partnership Breakfast on April 25 can now see Dr. Peter Benson’s presentation on “SPARKS: Igniting Hidden Strengths in our Youth and Within Us” on Channel 14 several times over the next week.According to a news release, the “show entitled ‘EP Community Ed Services Breakfast’ will also include a presentation on EP4Y, the new youth collaborative, outlining possible ways that adults in the community can impact youth in a positive ways. The video celebrating the 35th anniversary of Community Education in Eden Prairie is also part of the cable show.”

The program will air on Channel 14 on the following schedule: 7/4 at 7pm, 7/5 at 6 p.m., and 7/6 at 7 p.m.

Survey results offer positive picture of Eden Prairie’s youth

Three years ago, when looking at the results of the Minnesota Student Survey, the picture showed an Eden Prairie student population that was noticeably stressed.

The good news, as delivered by the school district’s Prevention Coordinator Michael Stanefski during this year’s Partnership Breakfast, is that there have been some decreases in those levels since 2004.

“Although there is improvement, there still is work to be done,” he noted.

Teen drinking linked to watching R-rated movies

New Dartmouth Medical School research on 2,406 children shows that middle-schoolers who are forbidden to watch R-rated movies are less likely to start drinking than peers whose parents are more lenient about such films.

Researchers found that among those whose parents let them watch R-rated movies "all the time," almost a quarter had tried a drink without parents' knowledge. That compares with barely 3 percent who tried a drink among those who were "never allowed" to watch R-rated movies. See the full article here.
