Organization Chart

EP4Y holds meetings on the second Thursday of October, January, March, and May to update the entire collabrative. If you are interested in participating or want to attend, email bherzan@gmail.com.

The agenda includes updates from committees, information from regarding needs and resources, determining information and communication needed. Members are representatives from schools, city of Eden Prairie, YMCA, library, businesses, parents, faith community, service organizations, law enforcement, youth service providers, and sports associations.

Executive Committee
Meets the third Friday of each month, 8:00-9:30 a.m. Inner workings of EP4Y, determine what to recommend, communicate and coordinate. Membership includes chairs from each committee, Secretary and Chairperson. There is an application process to join.

Prevention Committee
Create a community-wide prevention message and actions that support it (determine short and long-term focus: alcohol, tobacco and other drug prevention, violence prevention, emotional and mental well-being).

Youth Development Committee
Create access to programs for youth with barriers (assess current level of support available, consider common scholarship practices, pursue scholarship funds, research transportation options, communicate opportunities effectively).

Youth
Youth will be involved throughout, in ad hoc or existing groups, to give input and suggestions.

Communications Committee
Communicate the work of EP4Y. Educate adults about the ways they can make a difference for Eden Prairie youth (create a communications plan, work on the EP4Y website, and establish a speakers’ bureau for EP4Y).

Fundraising Committee
Raise funds to support the work of EP4Y (assist committees in determining potential avenues for funding, assist committees in grant writing, and in approaching organizations for funds).

Teen drinking linked to watching R-rated movies

New Dartmouth Medical School research on 2,406 children shows that middle-schoolers who are forbidden to watch R-rated movies are less likely to start drinking than peers whose parents are more lenient about such films.

Researchers found that among those whose parents let them watch R-rated movies "all the time," almost a quarter had tried a drink without parents' knowledge. That compares with barely 3 percent who tried a drink among those who were "never allowed" to watch R-rated movies. See the full article here.
