About EP4Y

EP4Y is a community collaborative providing resources to youth and families in the areas of healthy youth development and prevention of youth alcohol and drug use. Through improved communication and coordination of programs and services, we provide access to resources youth need to grow up healthy and succeed in school and in life.

Our sustained, community-wide, coordinated effort focuses on helping Eden Prairie youth get their needs met, including:

  • a sense of belonging
  • participation opportunities
  • drug and alcohol prevention
  • support in making healthy decisions

Our efforts are focused on:

  • school success
  • activities
  • family and relationships
  • risk and protective factors
  • healthy development
  • prevention of alcohol and drug use in our youth

Broaden Awareness
Parents, community members, and young people need good information about helpful strategies to engage and support healthy development.

Actively Engage
Individuals and groups in Eden Prairie can play a powerful role to ensure that Eden Prairie youth are healthy and supported. There is a role for everyone in this effort!

Leverage Resources
When we all work together, community resources are maximized.

Create Opportunities
By sharing information about needs and resources, opportunities for young people and opportunities for community groups and individuals will be created.

Teen drinking linked to watching R-rated movies

New Dartmouth Medical School research on 2,406 children shows that middle-schoolers who are forbidden to watch R-rated movies are less likely to start drinking than peers whose parents are more lenient about such films.

Researchers found that among those whose parents let them watch R-rated movies "all the time," almost a quarter had tried a drink without parents' knowledge. That compares with barely 3 percent who tried a drink among those who were "never allowed" to watch R-rated movies. See the full article here.
